  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. Cream butter and dark brown sugar until smooth, then mix in egg, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients and fold in chopped pecans.
  5. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours.
  6. Shape dough into balls and place on prepared baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 12–13 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
  8. Allow to cool before drizzling with maple icing.
