Description

Limoncello is a vibrant Italian liqueur that captures the essence of fresh lemons, offering a delightful balance of sweetness and tartness. This homemade limoncello recipe is not only rewarding but also perfect for those who appreciate authentic flavors. With just a few simple ingredients, you can craft this refreshing drink to enjoy chilled after meals or as an impressive handmade gift. The process involves infusing lemon zest in high-proof alcohol, creating a zesty liqueur that can elevate mocktails or desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 large organic lemons (untreated)
  • 500 ml high-proof alcohol (95%)
  • 600 g sugar
  • 750 ml water

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash the lemons and scrub the skin. Dry them with a cloth.
  2. Peel the lemons using a vegetable peeler, avoiding the bitter white pith.
  3. In a glass jar, combine lemon peels and alcohol; seal and let infuse for 30 days in a cool, dark place.
  4. After 30 days, strain the mixture to remove peels.
  5. Prepare a syrup by boiling sugar and water until dissolved; let cool, then mix with the infused alcohol.
  6. Store in bottles and allow to rest for another 40 days before serving.
