  • 700g (1.5 lbs) beef chuck, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Sauté the onion until golden brown. Add garlic and ginger; stir until fragrant.
  2. Mix in pureed tomatoes and cook for 3-5 minutes until thickened. Stir in spices and combine well.
  3. Add cubed beef; coat with spice mixture and brown for about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Pour in beef broth; bring to a simmer. Cover and cook on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours until beef is tender.
  5. Stir in yogurt and adjust seasoning as needed. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes before serving.
