Ingredients
- 4 medium yellow onions
- ½ pound ground beef
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons olive oil

- Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the onions by peeling and hollowing them out, leaving about 1/4 inch of onion around the sides.
- In a skillet, melt butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Add the hollowed onion centers and cook until soft and golden brown.
- In another skillet, heat remaining olive oil over medium-high heat. Cook ground beef with seasonings until browned.
- Mix half of the caramelized onions into the beef mixture and fill each hollow onion with this mixture.
- Place filled onions upright in a baking dish. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake covered for 30 minutes. Uncover, add Gruyere cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly.
