Ingredients
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 50g sugar
- 10g salt
- 10g dry yeast
- 250ml warm water
- 250g cold unsalted butter
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water until a smooth dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- While dough rises, place cold butter between two parchment papers and flatten to a rectangle (20x15cm). Chill for 10-15 minutes.
- Roll out the dough into a larger rectangle (40x30cm) and sandwich the chilled butter in the center. Fold the dough over the butter and roll again into a rectangle. Fold like an envelope twice more, then chill for 1 hour.
- Roll out one last time to (40x30cm) and cut into triangles. Roll each triangle from base to tip to shape croissants. Place on lined baking sheets and let rise for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Brush croissants with beaten egg and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
