  • 3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chopped stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, brown the ground beef with garlic and onion for about 10 minutes until the meat is cooked through.
  2. Add chopped tomatoes, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper to the meat mixture.
  3. Reduce heat to low and let simmer covered for one hour, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in pinto beans and salt; cook for an additional 15 minutes before serving.
