Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/22 pounds flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bag or container, combine spice mix ingredients and set aside.
  2. Whisk together marinade ingredients in a large freezer bag and add the spice mix. Seal the bag with the steak inside and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours (up to 12).
  3. Before grilling, create a spice rub by mixing remaining spice mix with olive oil.
  4. Remove the steak from the marinade and pat dry. Rub with spice mixture and let rest at room temperature for 30-60 minutes.
  5. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill steak for about 5-6 minutes per side until it reaches an internal temperature of 130-135°F for medium rare.
  6. Let the steak rest for 10 minutes before slicing thinly against the grain.
